Department of Energy rejects request from Trump transition team to name staffers who worked on climate change

The Department of Energy made headlines Tuesday when it announced that it will not comply with recent requests from President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team, which asked the department to name employees who worked on climate change programs under the Obama administration.

Spokespeople from the department stated concerns that the surveys put forth by Trump’s transition team were seeking to cull staffers with climate-oriented priorities out of the upcoming administration.

“We are going to respect the professional and scientific integrity and independence of our employees at our labs and across our department,” said Energy spokesman Eben Burnhan-Synder in a statement first reported by the Washington Post on Tuesday morning. “We will not be providing any individual names to the transition team.”
