3D Genomic Origami

This is a great article about a major player in genomic modeling the CTCF protein and the ways in which it creates loops that regulate gene expression including genomic imprinting, and X chromosome deactivation. CTCF also binds laminin and is important for chromatin  folding. It also highlights how discoveries happen at the intersection of computing, math, and biology and the need for communication design and media to communicate the results through an educational video. Moreover, the loops where DNA contacts are made are conserved across species and it appears that spatial organization maximizes the energy efficiency of the gene regulation with similar domains congregating into compartments with no two cell types having the same folding— Epigenetics is Origami!
